  • [freelance opportunity] HTML developer

Hey guys,

I'm looking for an HTML developer/Graphic designer who's familiar with HAML/SASS, preferably.

Please let me know if you're interested or know anyone who's interested.

Thanks

Costa
I'm always amazed by clients who know what developers should know! why don't you do it by yourself then? you know everything! why would i need to know SASS if i can do it in css or less css or whatever?

a client should ask for a web developer and the web developer knows what language to choose, a client should get the results!

Do you go to a doctor and tell him what he should do?

you didn't even describe your project, didn't say a word about your budget

What if they are a company and they don't have any front-end developers available within the company? He mentioned HAML/SASS because these are usually used in conjunction with the RoR framework so that means the developers have chosen their server side technology already and they need someone familiar with what they're doing. I don't see anything wrong with that.

If you don't like what you read, no need to rage, it won't make any difference. Just calm your tits down.
@someone: yet another misplaced comment. Costa here is an old timer on the forum. He's a programmer and knows what he's talking about. I can bet the job offer is for a designer to join an existing team where tech choices are already long decided.

Again, why the rage?
@rahmu because if you read the title: [freelance opportunity]

what do you understand when you read the word freelance? a client who wants a developer, companies "usually" ask for full time programmers, individuals ask for freelancers. so i thought that he's an individual who's asking for a freelancer.

why is the rage? coz i hate it when "individual clients" tell a programmer what to do...

Clearly, you have never done any freelance work. If you are working as a freelancer, your job is to hear what your client has to say and do it. If you are not up for this lifestyle, start your own company.

Costa knows exactly what he is doing. His team is already using SASS and I assume he would like to keep things consistent. If you are not a flexible programmer, don't expect to advance much in your career as a freelancer or full-timer.

I have noticed a couple of other not-so-carefully thought of comments you wrote in other topics. It's a good idea to go over your post and clearly explain your point. This would avoid your remarks being mis-interpreted as trolling.
when i work for "an individual client" he tells me what he needs to do, not what programming languages i should learn.

In this case, well it's an unusual case where a "company" is asking for a freelancer, then you are right, but most of the people asking for freelancers are independent individuals and those do not have the right to tell me what programming language i should use, coz i am the programmer not them, they only have to get the results.

Wow! there's a bit of a misunderstanding going on and thanks to all who pitched in for clarification.

The thing is, I have a very small task to do and need a hand from an experienced front-end developer. I know that freelancing is popular among designers and developers so I thought that's probably the way to go.

You could've simply asked for more details, which would've probably led to potentially discussing the task over coffee.

In this particular case, it might be a misplaced comment or overreaction. But he has a point, customers sometimes abuse their power by attempting to dictate often dubious technological choices when they obviously do not have the understanding and knowledge to be making them.
Yes, the customer is always right, the customer is the king... But such people are actually not looking for developers/consultants but rather code monkeys.
