Really I was deceived by Apple... this is more an Evolution than a revolution ... Share your impression here
PS: They only call it "The New IPad" not even IPad 3 or 2S :P

Yeah but always Apple sell 1 only type of macbook in the market officially, but in the case of the Ipad there is 2 devices, the ipad 2 and the new ipad,if they dropped the naming convention it will cause lots of problems,if they are gonna keep 2 ipads in the market (like now) next year there will be the ipad and the ipad in the market, and the even bigger problem if they did the same with iphones since apple keeps 3 iphones in the market.mezin wroteIts called.simply.the iPad, they decided to drop the numbering. That's true for now, lots of supply and demand for both models but i think eventually they will phase the old ones out just in time for the new ones. I don't think apple is predictable anymore, Tim Cook himself said they chose to go with simply the "new iPad" to be unpredictable. I seriously doubt however that was the main reason. I'm 100% sure at this point the new iphone will not be iphone 5 (it wasn't supposed to be anyway being the 6th generation iphone).m.sabra wroteYeah but always Apple sell 1 only type of macbook in the market officially, but in the case of the Ipad there is 2 devices, the ipad 2 and the new ipad,if they dropped the naming convention it will cause lots of problems,if they are gonna keep 2 ipads in the market (like now) next year there will be the ipad and the ipad in the market, and the even bigger problem if they did the same with iphones since apple keeps 3 iphones in the market.mezin wroteIts called.simply.the iPad, they decided to drop the numbering. in that case we will start to see those ugly names used to identify the macbooks like macbook (early 2008).coming to ipads and iphones.
well the smart case is the same works on both, the dock connection has been the same since the original ipod, other than the size difference is see no problem there... i'm pretty sure the ipad 2 will be updated at least till the end of ios 6rahmu wroteI think the issue comes from the existing incompatibilities between the first and the second version. They can afford not to give version names with the Mac series (or to a certain extent with the iPod series), because tools and peripherals are compatible across versions (to a given extent of course. My friend's 4 year-old macbook is having a hard time keeping up).
If iPad wants to be only "iPad", then I should be able to buy a case for "iPad" and not worry whether it's the same size or not. If I read a tutorial online on how to activate a certain feature on my OS, I shouldn't see "doesn't work if your ipad was made before 2014".
I hope this is the kind of message that Apple is sending by dropping the "ipad 3" name.
