yasamoka rolf wroteI can't believe nobody pointed to a hard drive recovery software. We did. ZAR is quite good. However, it isn't extremely low level, but it is powerful.
devilsadvocate so what did the repair guy tell your brother,i doubt he knows more than this site does.
Metalloy today my brother stop by the repair shop, he told him that he managed to only retreive about 6 gb ( i estimate that the original data is about 40gb) and told him something about bad sector :s tommorow ill go get it and get blank dvds to burn the retreived data on...
shant try to check if those dvd's are working after you burn them, they like to stop working sometimes
yasamoka Metalloy, I really hope he didn't place the files he recovered on the hard disk. If he did so, then he has most probably overwritten the lost data. If he didn't place the files on the disk, you can try to recover the files yourself with ZAR. If need be, I will guide you through. Meanwhile, take care not to place anything on the hard disk. And at least for the next few months, keep it's data backed up. Do not rely on it as a main drive for critical data, at least not now.
Metalloy i just got back home, all the data recovered are damaged and cant be oppened :s powerpoint file, images, videos, autocad files, word files... nothing is working :s no he wrote nothing on that drive but he told me all of my data are located in bad sectors, he even told me that he stop the process when he reached 25%, for their is no point, and my only option is a place in beirut, where they take about 400$ for the first 1gb or 4gb he's not sure, using a specialised machine, and after this process my hard drive will be damaged.for life and not working... yazamoka if you can help me i would be more the greatful!
Metalloy Mr.class i just tried to make it work on mac, but all the buttoms ( repair disk, clear history, verify disk, verify disk permissions, repair disk permission) are transparent and i cant press them, and about the spinrite method, please tell me about it.
