I can't stand my SE Xperia X10, I'm changing it soon. Meanwhile, how can I make it faster? I have low memory space (384), the homescreen restarts by its own so I had to install another launcher. And BTW, I'm not ready to root it to boost it. Any suggestions?
didbu upgrade it to the latest version?
i have one myself

upgrade to gingerbread

remove any task killers - ironically it makes everything even slower

its actually quite responsive for me very quick and nippy !

also don't install so much things on the phone memory, use an app that can transfer them to your SD card !
since you are not considering rooting (so you can remove all bloatwares or install a lighter ROM) a factory reset should help,or try to uninstall the apps that you don't actually need.
Metalloy wrotedidbu upgrade it to the latest version?
I have the lastest android version, Android gingerbread 2.3.3
@The-MMMs most of my apps are already on the sd card.. your phone is rooted?
@m.sabra I used to do that but it was useless..
It used to lag since the first date I got it.. could it be because of the shop? ( I got it from Stars Communications - Amhaz) because also the camera in this phone and the older phone (Nokia E66) is not 100% clear, unlike my friend who had the E66 with a better camera performance..
No other solution than rooting?
No, my phone is not rooted (the process for the x10 is very long and confusing so i didnt bother) and then some 1 month later Sony finally rolled out the update

In all honesty, when i got this phone, i was experiencing major speed issues

I deleted everything, and reset to factory

i even removed the SD card and used "Panasonic SD formatter" to format it (a quick google will lead you to it

I put everything back, updated via the official Sony Update, and installed facebook, whatsapp, and some other personal apps

Ever since, no slowdowns (again it isn't the quickest phone) but considering it's age and specs its fine on my end

I use my phone on a daily basis as well - always have google maps open and 3G since i still get lost on these roads, whatsapp so on so forth

The camera also is very bad on my phone - like it isn't good at all, it got slightly better with the gingerbread update since it also allows 720p video recording now. But in general its utter garbage.

Anyway, try what i suggested, im sure it will help !
So I should format the memory card, and then update again.. I'll try it.. ! And I'm never going to buy a phone that is more than a year old
When you update - the memory is already flashed !

So there is / won't be a need for you to download the update !

I believe its just an issue of file fragmentation

Just reset phone to factory settings, and backup your files (pictures contacts etc) on the SD, format it, and then put it back in

Im sure you'll find some improvement.
Well I downloaded the formatter and installed, then didn't find it. Can you provide a link please?
I've formatted the s card, resetted the settings then factory settings.. let's see
a month later
Sorry for late feedback. Things did get faster, not fast enough but.. fast .. Thanks !
