  • Laptop Hard Disk upgrade: 4200 rpm to 7200 rpm

Hi guys, i need your advices,
i'm deciding to upgrade my toshiba a205 laptop's hard drive to a new one of 7200 rpm after it is 4200 rpm, does this make the overall performance noticeably better? anybody tried this, i'm waiting you guys, thank you.
Yes you will notice a difference. Read/write and access times will be improved alot.
Why not an SSD?
Now it's not a good time to buy a hard drive ,because the prices are WAYYY UP high. Especially in your case since your's is a IDE drive which are expensive naturally.
I heard you guys the first time...
you mean 5400rpm? yes you will see a pretty good increase in read/write as flakk said, i recommend western digital drives (as you will be carrying or moving the laptop while its on) they can take a lot of damage and still work
2 months later
im wondering where i can get a 7200 rpm hard drive in beirut 500 gb or more for my toshiba a665 , and which brand , should i go for western digital ?
Good luck

Here are three 7200RPM 2.5" hard drives at http://www.pcandparts.com/notebook.htm

Seagate ST9500420AS 500GB 7200RPM S-ATA Hard Disk Drive $119.00
Seagate ST9750420AS 750GB 7200RPM S-ATA 16MB Hard Disk Drive $147.00
Seagate Momentus XT ST750LX003 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache 2.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Solid State Hybrid Drive $224.00
i think momentus xt has some problems, not sure if they fixed it or not

I just wrote a reply where I further developed and defended the idea of getting an SSD + external drive as the best solution but then I thought it was a bit out of place, so I deleted it and just wrote good luck :)

I still think that if you want to upgrade you should get an SSD and you'll also need an external drive because SSDs arent very big, unless you want to pay $400-$500 for the bigger ones...

It will cost more but then if you want to see real difference you have to look for the best option.
