Hi geeks;
anyone can help me where to find a decent gaming pad for my desktop...
PCANDPARTS is out of stock and checked some other major stores with no luck

you need the xbox360 joystick for pc as a good controller, you can find it at provideo in bourj hammoud
Beej
i HAVE THE saitek XBOX 360 CONTROLLER FOR WINDOWS. This thing is BEAST, its alot bigger than an xbox 360 joystick, fits my big hands, and you can switch the left analog and digital directions. So it can be playstation style or xbox style.

does it work for all games that can work with xbx360 joysticks? (all games that work with joystick are made for xox360 controller )

You could also get the PS3 controller and use DS3 tool to connect the PS3 controller wirelessly to your PC via Bluetooth. Works great! And it shouldn't be a surprise that the XBox 360 and PS3 controllers are some of the best controllers out there.
PS: I also have an XBox 360 wired controller for PC use. It works great too. It boils down to preference, of course. I prefer PS3 controller, my brother for example prefers XBox 360 controller. Do not forget though that PS3 controller has motion-sensors (I can use those in Assassin's Creed to look around for example, but they're not too useful in most, if not all, cases, not even racing (for me, of course)). PS3 controller requires DS3 tool, which requires an active internet connection, so take that into consideration too.
Rumble is supported on both controllers. The 360 controller natively, and the PS3 controller also handled via DS3 tool as normal rumble. DS3 tool can also emulate XBox 360 controller, so if you have a game that natively accepts XBox 360 controllers, or for example only supports rumble on 360 controllers (Assassin's Creed), you can emulate 360 controls and use the PS3 control, with rumble support, of course.

how about a really cheap controller with an emulation by faking it as a xbox360, would that work with games that require xbox360 controllers? i might try that

Depends, can you find software that emulates any DirectInput joystick into XInput virtual joystick? If you can find that, then yes.
Or, you buy a joystick that supports XInput, though I doubt you would find any cheap ones. XInput is meant for XBox 360 controllers and their equivalents, such as that mentioned by Beej above.
However, maybe you are able to find fake PS3 or XBox 360 controllers? They'd cost less, but I still recommend you go with the real thing. Don't know if the fake controllers are legal anyway. Also, I bought a barely used (not even fingerprints) PS3 controller for $30 on el-mazad. Met with the guy, gave him the money, and he gave me the controller. DualShock, not the original sixaxis, works like a charm, rumbles like a truck, great purchase! (With the DS3 tool, you can even control rumble intensity and map to the buttons you like.
I'm left handed, so DS3 tool can possibly help with those games that don't allow you to map your own buttons on the 360 controller, or those which you can't hack their configuration files to do so. I just map the left joystick to the right one on the 360, and voila! Also, the first Assassin's Creed did not support disabling y-axis look invert. (That kills me, I prefer to play with invert disabled. Off-topic: since I'm left handed, I can move more accurately in Assassin's Creed, since the left joystick controls movement by default. With the DS3 tool, you can even move with the right joystick and look around with the left, and even map the hat switches (arrows) to the X,O,square, triangle and vice-versa.)
You either had to map the 360 controller to a PPJoy controller using GlovePIE, or use Joy2Key, and choose the DirectInput joystick in AC, losing rumble (AC supports rumble only on 360 controllers). So either you're satisfied with the y look mapping, or if you want to invert it, you will lose rumble (that is, except if you are able to modify the XInput calls on a basic level within the XInput driver and software to give different button presses for a button). On a PS3 controller, you don't lose anything, since you can map the controls as you wish via DS3 tool, and the software automatically converts the controller's DirectInput calls into XInput calls, and vice-versa for rumble, thus it is able to support rumble from an XInput call.
It's rather weird that if you want to customize the 360 controller's controls, you lose rumble in AC, while with the PS3 controller being EMULATED as a 360 controller, you lose nothing :P
I think my post was a bit complicated, tell me if you would like clarification on any aspect of this reply.

Gaming on a controller when you are on a PC kinda loses its point though doesnt it?

well thank you guys...
Yasamoka i already put ps3 sixaxis with DS3tool using bt dongle i had before and everything is working fine.
However am not sure if the controller is charging... it simply illuminated in cyclic manner with mini usb is plugged in.
I saw a lot of others blinking while charging... Any help!!??
Iam just using the gamepad for Fifa or NBA games...

Yes very true...it illuminates in a cyclic manner...if you're concerned whether it is charging or not, then go to DS3 tool, and under LED, click on Battery Information. It will display the battery level instead of assigning the PS3 controller a number. Very beneficial especially when one controller is connected.
@Devil'sAdvocate: hehehe...when you're playing third person shooters, driving games, Assassin's Creed, FIFA, NBA, etc... you will prefer a gamepad...if you don't have a console but have a high end gaming PC, then it's much cheaper to get a controller only, and you can get MUCH better graphics and more customiseability. I can look around in Assassin's Creed with the motion sensor in the PS3 controller, can that be done with a PS3? :D

haha well to each his / her own, I still think you're missing a lot by not going PC, it's simply gotten so much easier these days.
