How do you usually go about search forms that allow the user to search by multiple fields? By that I mean that the user can fill all or part of the fields she can search by. One way of doing this is to send those as parameters of a stored procedure in which the "where" statement is setup in such a way to filter the results by the entered parameter or disregard the parameter (i.e: get all data base on this param).
I find this to be somehow hacky and "not so elegant". It usually results in a fat query which is hard to maintain. So, any other ways of doing this?
