  • [Help] Rooting & installing Android on hTC HD2

All is in the title... I just want a detailed step by step because I'm not familiar with such operation and I didn't quite understand what to do when I searched the net (and watched videos also)
Oh And for the Android version I prefer the 2.3 GingerBread (also I read that CyanogenMod are the best Android ROM so if the custom ROM could be CyanogenMod I'll be very grateful)

Thanks in Advance!
Well first of all we need to check if your radio version is compatible with android (don't worry if it isn't you can upgrade it) look under Settings>About Phone>Software information for the radio version.Radio needs to be 2.08.50.xx or more (x.xx.51.xx are not compatible) and what is the memory size of your SD card ? and you prefer flashing android to SD or NAND (phone internal memory) a quick resume is that flashing to SD keeps windows mobile on your phone and dual boot it with android, while NAND completely remove WinMo but uses something like the recovery in android called MAGLDR to flash ROMs. i will give you a tutorial to upgrade your radio if it's not compatible and then chose any method (SD or NAND) and i will guide you through it :) .
The Radio Version is: 2.10.50.08_2
The SD Card is 4GB so I prefer flashing android to SD

Thank you really much m.sabra :)
ok first it's better that your SD card is clean before starting, then you will need Android Loader,it's just a tool that will allow you to chose between the two OSs on boot up you can get it here and install it to system (not to the SD) now you need to chose a ROM you can use this oneit's a vanilla android 2.3.7,now unzip the file, everything should be in a folder called "Android" (without quotes)now i don't know if the link that i have gave to you have a "data.img" file (it determines the internal storage)if it does have just copy it inside the Android folder if it does not you can install android and it will make one by itself (but could took up to 30 min to boot up the first time) now copy the Android folder to the root of your SD card, now make sure your phone is charged and in WinMo file explorer access the android folder run CLRCAD (nothing will show up) then run HARET you should now see a small pop up and some text line on the screen BE PATIENT,when android finishes starting you will see a splashscreen and at the end and android lockscreen (that's mean you are done)
now am gonna give you few tips to be on the safe side before flashing any new rom (using the same way) it's better to format the SD card, and it's always better even if it is slower to let the Android ROM write it's own data.img since if you downloaded a data.img file from the internet maybe it will not work with your ROM so it's always better to let android write this file on first boot, always backup the data.img to your PC.
well this is all for now am ready for any future help :)
Okay I'm downloading :)
How to install this Android Loader? My PC doesn't even recognize the phone when I plug it in (it only reads the SD)
Copy it to your phone and run it on the phone in the explorer i think it should ask you to chose storage so chose the internal,if it didn't work don't worry it's not necessary but without it you will have to run CLRCAD and HARET after every reboot.

you are welcome glad that i was helpful :)

ok for the NAND it's also simple but setting it up for the first time is a bit harder (longer :P) than doing it with SD,first you need to know the size of your rom (you can get it from settings) the flashing something called HARDSPL then flashing MAGLDR then flashing the ROM, after you have done this if you want to change you ROM you will start from the "flashing the ROM part" tough it will still require a pc. if you are considering doing it i could give you a full tutorial :)

Seems complicated.... my head hurts at the only though of it :S
The Rom you gave me transform the HD2 into a Nexus One, seems great :D I'll install ICS when it is available and stable
Yeah it's the same gingerbread rom of the nexus s
