how does this application work, from where the data (name , number..) are taken?
i tried my father number ,(he have no facebook , no social hub app,.....)
how it get the information?!
when you install it on your mobile it probably saves your contact list and send it to a server, and when you search for a number it search in that server :D easy as that
The father of a friend showed me this service, all happy. I think it's horrible. I'd never post my contacts' info online without their permission. It's useful for when you get unsolicited calls from companies and such, but that doesn't happen much.
I was going to install until I read that in order to use it you need to agree to publish all your contacts information. I wouldn't do it either.

And extremely unethical. I don't think this is how they do it, they'd get too much heat for it.

this would be illegal, and even if so , the app shows the real name , that's mean if i saved my friend number as a nickname , it doesn't show that nickname....
i don't know if its Google stuff...(I've heard that Google sells that type of information for a HUGE prices...)
It might parse the phonebook... there is an online phonebook for lebanese numbers, but I'm not sure if it contains cell numbers too. With that and spam databases, plus the input of users who register to this service you have a lot...

It does save your contact list on a server. When you install it, you need to agree that you are giving the application the rights to do so.

first are you sure that Whozcalling is made by a Lebanese ? because literally i wasn't able to identify any number with it,in the other hand truecaller works for almost any number, plus it's working normally on Android it's not blocked.
and for a service like that i don't mind sharing my contacts phone numbers,i mean if you read every license agreement and terms of use and policy's you sign online every day you will realize that you are sharing much much personal info about yourself from location to basic info.
