Hi, I want to buy a game online from eBay, but I noticed the item I wanted to buy is in NTSC format, and all of my games are PAL, and the seller on eBay said that PS3 games are region-free, so they work on any system, is that true? Does anybody have a NTSC game that worked?
Thanks
First of all man, NTSC and PAL has nothing to do with Regions, its just the games graphics description if you wanna call it. And yea most of the games here are Pal (which means HD in other terms)

The games can work on any system if you play offline, but if you have the intentions of playing online, the game regions are very important so you wouldnt wanna buy a random region. If you live here in Lebanon you should get Region 2 games, which is for Middle east, and Europe. (and Asia i think)

By the way, how are you gonna buy from Ebay ?!
First thanks for the help.
Actually, I am planning on playing the game online, so you mean it doesnt matter NTSC or PAL for online, the mportant thing is for it to be for region 2?

For buying from eBay, you can use an Ameican Express Card which you get from the bank, like Bank Audi
Yea man, it doesnt matter if its Pal or NTSC.. as long as its region 2. (thats from what i know)

But if you want wait for other users to reply aswell to be more certain.
Okay, i'll do so, and thanks AVOlio for your help
Ahla w Sahla man, Come again xD
although im happy you got your answer, this has already been discussed somewhere i believe

Anyway yes, the PS3, unlike the Xbox, is region free when it comes to games

Again this ONLY applies for PS3.
Another question, how can I know the region of the game if it is 2 or not?
Ahh another thing, I forgot to ask, about the game being region-free, that means i dont have to check if it is region 2 or still i have to?

As you noted above:

You have to make sure of the ZONE thing (back of the box) before buying: Zone2 which includes UAE so that you can buy PSN card from Sony World in Lebanon in order to buy any downloadable contents and get them working successfully, like additional weapons/maps/levels/characters/etc...for single player modes and DLC Map pack for online multiplayer such as COD Black OPs maps and COD MW3 map pack, the "coming soon" one.

and make sure you have an account of PSN location of UAE to download those content for your BLS game disc [It is on the side of the game-disc cover]. (for COD Black OPS, you can download for UAE account then use the purchased/downloaded content while playing on USA account and most probably the same case for COD MW3)

In case you want to get Zone3 for certain reasons which includes the US, you should get PSN card from USA in case you want to get any purchased/downloadable content working succesfully.

If the game is NON of your interest for you or isn't that much for purchased/downloadable contents then you can get Zone3.

Can you contact the seller or Ebay support in order to ask him?
I'll try that and see what he'll tell me about it, thnx
Bro as a guide:

On every game there is a region code of the type described below followed by numbers.

What is important for you is the first characters:

BLES : Europe game (region 2). Some of Australia (region 4) games shared same code as Europe.

BLUS : America game (region 1).

BLAS/BCAS : Asia game (region 3).

All of these games can run on any ps3 for offline or online play. However if you want to download an expansion pack for given game (for example new maps, characters etc...) you need to be sure that your PSN account is within the region.

For example you have a game that starts with BLUS, so you need a USA psn account to download from PSN the expansion pack.

@chosen2k: I see, ell thanks very much, yeh i noticed all of my games are BLES
Thanks
you can also double check the region by looking on the spine of the DVD casing, at the bottom it should have an obvious 1, 2, or 3 indicative of its region.
I can give all the credit for the right answer to chosen2k and The-MMMs. To make think easier:

Region 1 as NTSC U/C
Region 2 as PAL
Region 3 as NTSC J(Japanese NTSC), other asian countries are PAL.

Here is a full map of the pre-Blu-ray regions.

As for BD the regions apply to the following map.

In short for the PlayStation 3 the regions only apply to DLCs and Blu-Ray movies.
Ahhh, I just noticed a small black box on the back that has a globe outline with the number 2, i guess this is the region, lol, i searched the whole back of the game searching and didnt find anything, but now i noticed it
