Hello people... I'm thinking about getting an amazon kindle fire from the US
Does anyone know if it works in lebanon?
I heard that there are geographic restrictions? does rooting this device solve this issue? can I flash custom ROMs and transform it into a normal Android tablet, without the amazon apps and restriction?

Yes, there is a restriction regarding downloading the apps, but there's a very simple legal alternative way to solve it. No need to do anything that might prick it.

Thanks!
Anyone else has an idea?

A friend of a friend got it, from Virgin. It's available in Lebanon, and the work-around trick is the only way.

how much does it cost ?
Sami27
330USD Including VAT.
Got it. Can't access market without US credit card, instead you need some king of workaround where you can't buy paid apps.
Returned it and got an HP Touchpad for 430$ (32GB model) and installed Ice Cream Sandwich on it instead of WebOS. It has some flaws, but its better than a Kindle Fire. Also, If you are willing to pay ~500$ you can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 which is my better than either of those tablets.

What is wrong with iPads guys?
tufi2
@Ngel : Ok thanks because last time i checked I only found Kindle Fire available but maybe now they got the others too.
@NuclearVision : Well the iPad is the best in everything except reading ebooks and especially for a long time. It's kind of heavy compared to the Kindle and the Backlight is ruining my eyes even in the night mode. If you have any useful tips for reading on it, I'd be happy to hear.

Download iBooks, If you feel like you can read on your hdtvgrab an apple tv for 100$, and mirror your iPad screen on your tv.
Or you can get the kindle app from the AppStore.
I think it has the same interface as the kindle ("I think"). And the same books, so you'll maybe feel comfortable.
By the way, you can an iPad 2 it is cheaper and 50 grams lighter.
I did not notice any difference between the 2nd and 3rd gen iPad, except the amazing retina display which is best for reading books.
I always liked kindle fire, with its nice design and capatibilities. In the other hand I never appreciated android tablets, they're not perfect for reading books, at least that's my experience, but they have such power hardware for a tablet.
Conclusion: get an iPad and enjoy your life.
I'm always happy to help tufi2.
You're welcome.

@NuclearVision The problem is the screen. Regular tablets like the iPad and Kindle Fire have back-lit LCD displays (which means the light is directed to your eyes), while e-book readers like regular kindles have front-lit (which means the light is directed towards the screen) e-ink displays (if they have any lighting at all).
E-ink reproduces the ink on paper effect and is much easier on the eyes, thus perfect for reading.
I was hoping to get the Kindle Paperwhite. Does anyone know where to find Kindles in Lebanon?

I am still hoping to get a kindle e-reader by the way but I never seemed to find it anywhere. Have anyone by chance noticed it somewhere?

There's a place called Mojitech (New Rawda) that has them.
I called them a couple of months ago and they had the 2011 Kindle and the Kindle Touch. They said they were planning on getting the Paperwhite.
I decided to get mine from the US, it's so much cheaper that way. Waiting for it patiently.
Nabs
How much were they going for at Mojitech? Any idea?

It's about 150$ for the Kindle and 200$ for the Kindle Touch if I remember well.
