vegetaleb It looks like apple is losing this battle everyday. Google announced an impressive achievement for its mobile OS today - the ten billionth app download in its Android Market. While the milestone is impressive enough on its own, it is the rate of growth which is truly staggering - four billion of the downloads have taken place in the last six months alone. See the graphic below. To celebrate the accomplishment, Google put a number of popular apps and games on sale in the market for only ten pennies, so if you are an Android OS user, go ahead and start shopping! xterm It looks like apple is loosing this battle everyday :P Yup! fail apple. Who cares that android is deployed on hundreds of mobile types! Who cares that most apps don't even work across these mobiles!
Joe It's comparing apples and oranges (well little green robots in this case). I don't see how an increase of downloads of Android app could mean anything about Apple or whatever 'battle' you're talking about. Don't fall into marketing hype. It's overrated.
BashLogic a marketing guy has something to represent and argue on behalf regardless of its polarity. that is why the sales guys get all the money :P. anyhow, as for downloads, its mostly due to the change in operator policies decreasing their data connection costs and using fixed billing. what i really dislike is for example if you search for tic/tac/toe then you will get like a hundred variant of it! this does not speak on behalf of quality or actual usage. it only points that lots of developers have given it a try. IOS still dominates with profesional apps for enterprise and b2c (b2c=business to consumer) usage. android still has a minor share in that. currently, androids success is very dependent on how well the ice cream sandwich will be deployed in its vanilla form. for example htc tweaks it to a point that not all apps that the developers created are compatible with it. this lack of compatibility across the plethora of releases on different hardware is limiting the investment by enterprises and b2c companies in further developing on android and releasing their services on android. IOS is the prefered platform due to this. and actually due to this, ios is gaining market share especially in the multiple media sector of b2c (media streams, publications, etc).
