  • PC restarts when electricity goes off

julien_saadeh wroteGood day Firas,

I am going to tell you a story about UPSes at my home..

Few years ago, I bought a PCE UPS and I had the same problem as you but only randomly. Later on, I replaced it with a Diamond 800VA and as soon as the electricity went out, the PC restarted. Well something was fishy about this... I didn't know what to do. It stayed that way until one day I decided to place the UPS directly on the floor instead of the computer table and the problem had gone away. It never happened again!
And to prove it, one day I had an issue with the "multiprise" that as soon as the UPS switched to mains power, the multiprise would fail and cut off power immediately again, and no PC restarts occured.

What was wrong with the table? I don't know, but honestly, I would think of this later on...
the ups was grounded on the ground most probably or static electricity might have been it
as i said its all related to epic electricity we have here in lebanon
for gods sake guys, just run prime 95 for a few hours, if any problems exist then it should reveal.
on second thought,it could restart because you don't have enough power not because you have bad board\ram
so just take a good look at the capacitors on your motherboard(which should be really fine but avo doesn't think so) if anything looks like these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague then its bad, check to see if its even swollen
other than that, just replace the power supply, even if thats not the problem to the auto restart, you MUST replace that its just too little for a 560 and will cause problems in the future
yasamoka wroteYes, but what PSU??
im getting the Mercury XT 8550 550W Gaming PSU
Why are you skimping on the PSU, dude??
Firas wroteim getting the Mercury XT 8550 550W Gaming PSU
You will kill your system slowly and encounter TONS of BSOD's.
Mercury doesn't have decent quality PSUs , hat 550W won't give you 500W even.
You have an i7 and a 560Ti , these 2 things need power and 550W is just not enough.
Choosing that PSU will possibly not solve your problem aswell.
dude,ill give you a suggestion
either get XFX P1-750S-NLB9 or XFX P1-850S-NLB9 if you want to be future proof
xfx is known for its quality and is a seasonic power supply, i have the 650W and its worth every single penny ive paid for it
ok guys i got a 750W(REAL) psu which is so freaking cool, have some laser xenon blue ray coming out of it, and a 1500 ups, seems that problem is solved, thanks

Mercury PSU-s are not high quality they are mid range (Just like Point Of View)
As for the UPS that brand is a Chinese brand.
So I am very sure that your PC can still perform better with a better PSU and a better UPS.
But these 2 things should power your hardware for a while I guess...

well yeah i guess, but bf3 is running very smooth on ultra settings with 16x aa and everything maxed out, so is every other game, no lag nothing, and when the power goes out the pc keep running. So i think that solved the problem.

oh and ogero upgraded my internet connection in my area today #HOORAY

My PC has an i3 with a 560Ti, that is a MASSIVE bottleneck to the graphics card and it runs any game and highest settings with AA.So that's normal , and when you game with some lag just know that it's from the PSU because it lacks the amperage required for the 560Ti

actually, not a bottleneck at all, maybe slightly, just not that serious
8 months later
I'm sorry to bump this thread, but I'm having the exact same problem and didn't want to create a new thread.

So I bought this new Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti 1 GB DDR5, and the retailer told me that I need a 500W PSU. I have a 400W PSU, so I ordered the Gigabyte PoweRock 500W PSU from "PC and parts" (I know it's not the best option, but I had a limited budget). After installing the parts, I was trying the games on ultra settings, and they worked well, but when the electricity goes off, my pc always restarted. My cousin told me that I need a bigger UPS, and the problem is, I can't see how many VA my UPS is. It's a DM Pro (Model DM-1000), does it mean 1000 VA ? I don't think so, anyways any help would be really appreciated.

Now I'm running my pc again on my old psu and 9500 GT until I find a solution because I don't want my new GTX 560 Ti to die due to bad electricity.
your old psu will kill your graphics card faster than the electrical outage
I didn't use my old psu with the GTX 560 Ti, it doesn't even have the right connectors in it. Any idea on how to know VA on my UPS ?

What PSU do you have to be exact ?
