  • [Question] Flat Head Ribbon Cables

I'm looking for a place that sells flat head ribbon cables:

Katranji sells only flat ribbons for IDE cables and Boujikian doesn't sell either. Is there some sort of computer store that sells them?

Also, if anyone has some from some old system and wants to get rid of them, please PM me.
Nop, i couldn't find similar flat either. ordered it online.
I personally wouldn't search for such a thing in lebanon from the start :P
At Dora, on the second right street of Akil Bros there is a grocery store, next to the shop (The shop which goes to another street) You will find a small shop.
You will be able to find ribbon cables , resistors ect.
I got a ribbon cable from there when I was 13 to fix my Slide MP4 players screen.
You can also find some in old CD Rom drives.
i have a few, i can give them to you,but im not sure if its exactly the one you need

Do you have a name or phone number? I'm having a bit of a problem understanding your directions, so I found Akil Bros in Dora using wikimapia:

Can you please specify on the map (using arrows or whatever) how to get there from Akil Bros?

@shant: I'm looking for a 6 pin power button ribbon cable like the ones used on HP Pavilion dv1000 Touchpads:

the smallest i have is 10 pin, looks very similar to the one in the pic, the pins are big, it may work

It is already specified in your map (N.Ghazal Electronic Services)

If it doesn't work with Ghazal electronics, then I'll PM you and we'll see what you've got.

@AvoK95: Yeah, I had the feeling, just needed to confirm my suspicions ;)
Inside almost any DVD-CD ROM drive there is a 6/10 pin flat ribbon cable you might be able to use.
ok,glad to help, pm me when you can't find it

@AvoK95: I tried going at 9 am, 12 pm, and 6 pm to Ghazal electronics only to find him closed on three occasions. According to the owner of the Khoury mart just next to the shop, they guy doesn't have a time in which he opens the shop. Do you happen to have a phone number so I can reach him?

Already did. Thanks anyway :)
why not solder independent wires one by one? is it that small?
shant wrotewhy not solder independent wires one by one? is it that small?
Inter-signal interference for one, and stray capacitance two. I'm actually thinking of soldering a flat ribbon cable, which are used for IDE cables, onto a 6-pin 180 degree, long-pin PCB connector:

and replace it with the flat head cable along with their PCB chassis. But this is plan B.
Why not get a random cable and cut it to size ?
AvoK95 wroteWhy not get a random cable and cut it to size ?
Because the cable spacing is not the same, plus ISI and stray capacitance.
i see, i hate these ribbon cables, from now on im never throwing them away, good thing i kept a few
