I got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G 16GB model about 20 days ago and I can't seem to be able to update it neither throught the tablet itself nor the Kies software (USB connection and via Wifi modes both not recognized by Kies). I am using Honeycomb 3.0 and would like upgrade to 3.2 and hopefully 4.0 soon enough. If someone knows how to root the 3G version (require different files than the wifi version), I would be glad to hear it.

when you go to Setting-->About Tablet--->System Updates. can you find an update ? if yes and if you have tried it,are you getting an error message ? the problem occur when downloading the update or when the tablets restart and began installing the update ? sorry for asking too much questions :P but it's important to know those info so i can help you.

Thanks for your interest in helping me out.The upgrade is download successfully and the tablet restarts; The installation process reaches 20% (have tried it multiple times) and then just boots up regularly with a dialog box saying:" Firmware update failed". The update itself is only 7.73MB do I doubt its a corrupt download. Also everything is vanilla Android 3.0 no mods or roots whatsoever.

What is the battery level when you update ? Anything under 60% could cause the update to fail.
And if you have some non market apps try removing them and if nothing worked i think that doing a factory reset only will solve your problem since you are not rooted so nothing is changed in the system and the update should run smoothly in that case.

Battery usually at 90% when I try to update. But mosr of my applications are non-market apps could that be the because if it then that would be a big pain in the ass each time I'd have to upgrade. Is there any other way to upgrade without having to remove the non-market apps.

I usually update my phone without any problems and i have lots of non market apps, but i heard that some malicious apps could cause the update to fail (though this could be wrong) humm what is the description of the update ? I dont think it's the 3.2 update since it's only 7 mb and i couldn't find anything about it. I still recommend a factory reset since the update that you are downloading may have been pushed by mistake to you this is why it fails when updating. It's really weird cause OTA usually goes smoothly on stock tablets/phone.

What I'm afraid of is doing a factory reset and having the update still fail. As a factory reset would mean I would have to reinsall and copy ~10GB of apps and saves etc...

Try to update via kies using USB connection, you may be missing some drivers this is why the pc dont recognize your tablet google search will help you connecting it.
