As expected, Adobe has chosen
Apache as the recipient of Flex. I think this is great news, Apache is great with open source projects like SVN, Ant, OpenOffice.org, Hadoop or Cassandra.
More information can be found on the
official Adobe announcement on their blog.
It explains what motivated the change, and what the benefits for the users are going to be. It also strongly reaffirms its commitment to the development and support of Flex.
One particular sentence seemed interesting:
In the long-term, we believe HTML5 will be the best technology for enterprise application development.
I just can't help but remember all the flamewars that happened all the time around a year ago or so.
@ZeRaW: There's a tremendously big difference between a corporate backed open source project, and giving away to the Apache Foundation. It is thorougly explained in the Adobe blog post, but I also suggest you read more about Apache and its tradition, to understand how insane and exciting this move is.
