  • [HELP] wireless is disabled by hardware switch

i have an old Compaq laptop without hdd...
so i've downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 live usb, and i've booted successfully (using 8gb usb ...).....
but the problem is that my wireless ain't working, wired connection works fine , but the wireless didn't works , i have broadcom BCM4318 ...

ps:-wireless power button didn't work.
-im new to ubuntu.
You just need a driver that's all.
Sadly I don't have alot of experience with Linux either. I suggest you google the device name and search for Linux drivers
the driver comes with the os..
the ubuntu recognize the wireless device , (it shows it's name and everything , but when i try to search for a network .................., "wireless is disabled by hardware switch"
I had a similar problem with an old Acer TraveLMate. You will need to physicly urn on the switch or replace it with one of your won via soldering or just jamming the switch permanently on ON.

i dont think its a hardware problem, the wireless works great on windows.
