Yeah there is a retail copy of the game. But i dont think Virgin got it.
Get it from Steam its a 5.7GB download.
bluewolf wrotei actually back up the girl ^_^, games are becoming way to addictive and too much time consuming that it is effecting our daily lives in functioning normally...

this is a time were all people care about is making more money, without thinking about the effect of their product on the individuals...
It's business isn't it? Are they jacking up prices and forcing you to buy it? It's your choice to buy it or not, and it's your choice to choose when to play or not. I got Skyrim on release, and just to try it out, I installed it, and played a bit with my friend.

He studies A LOT, and I mean, A LOT, and he played it a lot. I study much less, even waste time (I'm trying to improve on that aspect), and I decided that it would be wiser to leave it to the weekends, or a big vacation, where I have free time (if any), and even then, I'm not gonna spend a whole day just playing it, no matter how addictive it is. I used to play Oblivion, when I had little free time, I used to play for maybe 15 minutes, but when I had a lot of free time (and NOT at the expense of my socializing), I played for extended periods of time, I wasn't high on Oblivion though.

It's a matter of preference really.

EDIT: Also, it's nice to have that FPS where you can play for 5-10min (CoD), or play a bit more, extended strategic matches (BF3), or that RPG that lasts a good while (Skyrim, Oblivion, etc...). In my free time, in the weekdays, I just play a bit of BF3. No big deal.

i know they are not forcing you into anything... but addiction don't leave much choice...

good to know you got things under control, most people are not that lucky...
Was a retail copy of the game released anyway? It's been a while since I've seen boxed copies of any game. At least not in virgin...
Just ordered 10 PS3 copies, i'll let you know when i get them ^.^

Haha yes you're right about that! But nevertheless control is the key.
For your info the Game is already cracked and available to download with the first bug-fixes package
Alucardz wroteDoes anyone know where one can buy the original game?
It downloaded in one night on Steam; if you have DSL with unlimited night, I suggest you do that. It's running great, and you get all the nifty extras that come with Steam.
6 days later
Ok now I'm playing skyrim
First impression: deceived; Mouse sensitivity was awful, controls were hard, and the beginning is boring (we began as a prisoner)
Next impression: lets give it a chance.... I found myself playing this game for 5 hours straight! Fixed mouse sensitivity, downloaded some mods, began the main quest and discovered the new combat system (I'll leave the surprise for you)

Truly first appearance are deceiving but the more you continue the more it becomes addictive

Skyrim is THE best game of this year (after Assassin's Creed Revelations)
is it really only 5gb? a game that big should be at least 10-15
yup it is only 5GB... without any extensions; patch; update; mods
Amazing game so far! The weird thing is that it is so easy to gain werewolf form in the game unlike morrowind or Oblivion vampirism, where you need to work out a lot for them.

Another thing is that the werewolf is like a skill called beast form, you dont really change at night which is better for gameplay, but silly lore-wise.
Don't let alot of vampires hit you, they might give you the disease and become a vampire. If you dont want to become one early in the game, don't go into Vampire dungeons.

Although if you contract the disease you have 3 days to be transformed completely.

You can either talk to Falion in Morthal to find a cure or become a werewolf, who are 100% resistant to vampires.
I'm still a normal High Elf learning magic at the College of Winterhold
oblivion is way better ...the story plot has more drama npc have more AI
You can remove the disease from any altar found in any temple, making it basically easy to deal with. On the other hand it isn't that easy to contract the disease. Those who want to contract it on purpose will need lots of self healing to stay alive while you get hit.

Don't become a werewolf if you want to be a vampire later on!!! Otherwise you will need to go through the werewolf cure to be able to catch the vampire disease. Just keep in mind you will never be able to turn into werewolf again once you are cured, unless you use the console, which I personally despise.

I read about both quite a lot to see the ups and down of each, and personally tried werewolf.

Werewolf:
*Being a werewolf is great in case you enjoy close combat.
*If you transform in front of any guard, you will have a 1000 gold bounty right up at you.
*The only way to heal while in wolf form is eating humanoid bodies (couldn't use it on animals and other creatures), and the more you feed, the longer the wolf effect stays.
*Silver weapons are said to do more damage on you.
*Don't really expect to go wolf form and be able to wipe a town at start. Guards, especially archers, will do lots of damage on you.
*You can't open map, character sheet, loot, or equip anything while in wolf form.
*You can't talk to anyone while in wolf form, and if you had companions with you, might want to be real careful not to hit them or they will turn against you..... or flee.
*When you get out of wolf form, you will need to equip all your items again.
*You sprint faster than horse.
*Something I discovered myself, the amount you can carry will greatly be increased, I had 560 overweight on me, went wolf form and was able to run normally.
*You befriend wolves in wolf form.
*You won't benefit from any sleep bonuses (well rested or lover's comfort).
*Wolf form used once per day.
*Relies on one handed as barehanded skills don't exist.

I can't talk much about vampires as I haven't tried one yet. However, from what I've read, they are pretty close to the way they were in Oblivion, only difference is that they replaced the status increase perks with skills/spells. *As you head from one stage to the other, you gain more powerful spells, to reach a maximum of stage 4.
*I think Dark Elves are the best vampires since they have 50% resistance to fire, which will counter the weakness to fire taken from vampirism.
*At stage 4 you won't be able to talk to anyone as everyone will attack you, but it is very easy to feed on people while they sleep, which will take you back to stage 1. You can even order your companions to sleep, and feed on them. Dark Brotherhood will always accept you no matter what stage you were in.
*You wont be able to travel during the day, but you can easily manage that with lots of waiting.
*Unlike werewolf, you can get sleep bonuses.
*It helps a lot if you were a "rogue" or "mage" type, werewolf is more of a warrior type.
*You gain skills to be used such as animating the dead, invisibility, night vision, and other.
*At stage 4 you have 100% frost resist and 100% weakness to fire (can turn trivial if you were a Dark Elf or put on some fire resist gear).
is there more than 2 races you can join?
one is werewolf, one vampire..anything else?
The races are Orc, high Elf, Dark elf, nord, imperial (white human), redguard (dark skinned humans), khajit (cat), and Argonian (Lizard).

Vampire and Werewolf are just traits you pick along. In morrowind, there was something like a corporus disease, where you end up a walking corpse. But dont think there is such thing in Skyrim. So you only get to choose between Vampire and Werewolf, once you choose, you cant become the other because you get immune to diseases.

By the way, guys, Skyrim is way too BUGGY. So save often!!!!! Yesterday I lost something inside the house that I bought in Whiterun. Unlike Oblivion where if you place something inside the house as a decoration it will stick there FOREVER, in Skyrim they get reloaded everytime you enter, so it might or might not be where it was. I stole Statue of Dibella from some temple, lovely gold woman statue, and placed it inside the house. It stood there for few days, but each time I came inside the house, it fell in a different place close to its original place, so I just fixed it back up, until yesterday, it wasn't there at all. I think it loaded in an unreachable place, maybe below ground, behind wall, or someplace else. Cause I couldn't find it no matter what I did.
