Check your firmware version and update !
I know it's a 2yr old issue, but i was not aware of it until one of my HDD stopped working and it turns out to be a bug in the firmware and updating at this stage is kinda of hassle, but still doable.

This issue dates back to January, 2009 (about 3 years ago), since then Seagate HDDs are excellent, I bought the Seagate 7200.12 in 2010 and it works perfectly.

I had LOTS of bad issues with Seagate.
I'v had 4 Seagate hard drives and none have satisfied me.
One of the problems I'v had is that , the drive runs great for a few days and the next day it doesn't spin , or the head clicks.
Another issue is that the controller on the board gets fried by itself O_o.
Even though Seagate drives are fast (almost equivalent to WD Caviar Black series)
I prefer to buy WD drives as they are a lot more reliable.
