OK this needs specific details :P.

First, just because you run msi kombuster, it doesnt mean your stable. Dont try furmark or occt tests. Just a few games and you will be set. Try cod games, nfs gmes, dmc4, crysis, and dirt. Thats what i use as each game stresses somthing different within the gpu.

Also overclock fails in 3 ways: System crash, black screen and driver recover msg appear, or it downclocks. So even in AB or any other program it shows you 850mhz, in reality its 405mhz running.

A fan blowing on your card's back will not affect airflow that much, it will drop pwms temp.
Experiment with me here, go to nvidia control panel -> power options > and choose prefere max performance.
Default your overclock speeds, dont touch your mem freq, and focus just on the gpu core. Up the voltage when needed and speed your fan to the max.
We are trying to find your gpus clock roof, and we can lower it a bit with lower fan speeds, and lower voltages.
Dont be hastey little by little. As i have spent weks on my gpu to see what is the best and what is crazy. My card i am 812 stock and can oc to 850mhz on 1.03v. I can reach 940 mhz with 1.06 and i can do crazy run 970 mhz, for now ;).
1) I test in kombuster cause it's faster, then i go to the games
2) tell me about it, i had all of those overclock fails, I'm pretty familiar with'em
3) Power option, where is that?
4) I've tried 875 with default mem freq at 1.05, it failed.
its in nvidia control panel. Search for it in performance, manage power settings and change it from adaptive to prefere max performance.

OR you could have gotten a real crappy silicon there :(.
Why are the temperatures SO high with the GTX 460?? My GTX 260 barely heats up compared to those 460s, although it's supposed to be the other way around!

EDIT: My GTX 260 temperatures are 55C on Furmark @100% fan speed, 729/1458/999 (stock 576/1242/999)
I can reach 1512 on those shaders too. No overvolting helps at all. Difference between 1.12V and 1.0625V is only 3C at full load.

ILIA_93: Do exactly as Beej said. Do not run Furmark. Only do it if you want revenge from your GTX 460 (death). Which I guess you don't :D
840/1680/1050 @1.025v seems the most reliable to me right now. and Beej when i placed the 80mm above the card, it went to 95c iin 2-3 mins. I ditch it under the card, it takes away 3-4c, but really really noisy, I'm hearing music all the time cause it's really loud :/. I'll remove it tonight when i finish testing my overclocks.

I'll re-overclock my CPU now, just need to take the bios pictures, and post them, so you guys know what I'm encountering.

Ok, now here we go, I wont apply any settings although I put the OC settings in the 1st pic:

-For the CPU:
1) Change MCH/ICH voltage override from 1.1 to 1.2
2) Change host clock freq. override to manual with 400Mhz

-For the RAM settings:
1) just automatic settings, that are shown as 1333 while it run at 1600Mhz, donno how!! :/

2) If the settings are changed to manual, whatever the settings I try, the PC wont boot, it just give me 3short beeps.

So what settings should I apply, these settings are working good, I want to know how I can make them better.

P.S: When I overclock, each time I turn on my PC from a complete power off, I have to enter the bios, and just go to the first pic, and then save & exit, so the overclock works. I still dont know why :o .
I think it's because your CMOS battery on your motherboard is dead... you need to replace it if BIOS settings are not being saved.
But the settings are saved, i just need to access them, other settings still saved, HDD booting, booting priority ......

But please, any review about this OC, I'm new to this, I want to know if these are safe settings? my temps at load max 75c, at prime95 80-83c.
That what i used to talk about, when my pc wont start, I shuffle the RAMs positions until it run. Well apparently, it ran the last time with the 2nd and 3rd positions. :/
ever heard of liquid cooling..air cooling will always be noisy and inferior to liquid cooling
ILIA_93 wroteThat what i used to talk about, when my pc wont start, I shuffle the RAMs positions until it run. Well apparently, it ran the last time with the 2nd and 3rd positions. :/
then it's your ram
I'v encountered lots of times when 2 rams run perfectly on a single stick but cause problems when put together.
you can try searching for computer shops who are willing to trade with your ram for 2 different ones (some accept that trade)
Tarek wroteever heard of liquid cooling..air cooling will always be noisy and inferior to liquid cooling
Could you elaborate on that? Not the fact its quiter or anything, as we already know, but what do you recommend using that exist here in lebanon?
1st: I switched the 2 rams back to A0 and A1 Slots, at the beginning I placed them there, the PC didn't start, one ram will work fine just like Avok95 said, but is it the RAM or the MOBO ?

2nd: For liquid cooling, I heard my tiny wallet screaming in my closet :S .

if it runs OK with just one stick then it's the ram
you can try just updating the BIOS, because in the new version they might have fixed this problem
if you are not planing to reach 0 degree celsius..liquid cooling can be extremely quite .. and in comparaison to air cooling , mainting the same temperature that the user wants is easier , and quiter .
as i noticed he is building his own cooling system using parts from abroad...a liquid cooling systemcan cost a 100 $ more but can be easily fair to build and manage .

im sure yasamoka or JAD can elaborate on this but in simple terms we need the following :

•A pump that moves coolant through the system
•A radiator that dispels heat into the air
•A fan that moves air over the radiator
•A coolant reservoir that holds extra fluid and allows easy addition of coolant
•Hoses that connect the different parts of the system

All this devices can be found in computer shops, pet stores, etc..
i didn't mention a Peltier device as we do not need freezing temperature and this way we can limit condensation.
As for the liquid , I use normal every day cooking oil as it is an amazing heat dispeller and electrical insulator.
check the pics and let me know how i can help if you're interrested .

@ Tarek: I know how it works :P, and am skilld enough to do it but its not how it works. Its where to buy! You cant give such an option, and alot are looking and dying to get one, which doesnt exist in lebanon. Its hurtful :P.

The 2 "water cooling" kits here available in lebanon are the outdated, bad, noisy, non prforming..etc TT bigwater and gigabyte's somthing kits.

And these kits do not represet real water cooling. Also the built in H2O coolers like antec's and corsair's are not real water cooling...

Tarek do you know where i can find a Peltier?????? I need them with good quality and operate on high voltages, 10-16v?
we all can purshase parts from the internet , tubes, pumps and etc can be found here in leb ... i thought he is building his gear so why invest in a mediocre technology when you can upgrade .
all you need are the modules for the GPU , CPU , etc .. everything can be found in leb

as for the Peltier device try asking Mesa..she is better at that
for more extreme cooling , try submersion cooling ( we drown the entire system in dielectric liquid )phase-change cooling, etc ..
Well i was about to dip my system in mineral oil, and try to do some basic physics with liquid being displaced and cooled :P. But i cant since my motherboard's bios doesnt allow for much overclocking.

Also tubes and pumps are easy-ish to get (even if they are not good quality and can dent), but the cpu/gpu blocks are hard to find. And yes we all can get stuff from internet via dhl/aramex..etc. But WC is already expensive, shipping them from outside of lebanon will only jack the prices up, and we dont get they warrenty other countries do. If i leak or somthing wrong happen, i loose my entire setup.

As for extreme cooling, i already have to choices at home, a small water fridge or a portable big old AC ;).
Haha im deep frying a critical mining control server with a 3M liquid ( i forgot its name ) and the entire system is circulated into a radiotor and etc..think about it as a big water cooling submersion system
