Hey all. How much would a custom POS software cost? The Quickbook POS Pro costs around 1800$ pre-made. I'm going to have to add the hardware to the bundle too. Could anyone tell me how this works please? Custom-made or not, and who's willing to go through it. PM with your offers please. It's a POS software, barcode reader and receipt printer will be used, and there's a cashier box. There will be reports, inventory, client profiles, and installment payment notes. Thank you.

Would custom-made be an advantage?
I wouldn't really know. The Quickbooks POS software seems to have it all, along with unneeded extras. Also, there's no support for it in Lebanon. A software tailor-made here wouldn't be like that, right?
Yes, but custom made software will be less tested, hence possibly some bugs in the beginning. If it's really custom made, from scratch (as opposed to using some open source POS software), it will also have less features. I don't know if there are many people with POS software experience in Lebanon, but for me, I could probably write one, but I have no POS or business knowledge so you will have to tell me all you want, and all that I must include - like what will a report include, how to calculate this and that, etc. because I will have no idea. The advantage is something custom built to what you need, and if you have several POS it can be interesting. For the price, it depends on how simple it is - it's not clear enough to me from your description how much work it will take hence the price.
I learned .NET by writing a POS for my relative. Of course, it wasn't anything fancy as I was just getting started with .NET. But it really isn't that tough to create one, and the calculations required to obtain certain values can easily be found online. Moreover, reporting with the ReportViewer control in a .NET environment makes it really easy to produce any report you're interested in, and the best part about it is that it already has built-in support for exporting in PDF, Word, and Excel formats as well as printing the report as a hard-copy.
If you're not looking for a solution tailored for your needs specifically, you're better off buying an existing cheap solution. There are already many established solution here in Lebanon and if you're interested I'll try to hook you up with some reps.
Re-implementing a POS solution with the details you need, takes time and the price would be incomparable to existing cheap alternatives, let alone issues that may arise when the custom app gets deployed.

Thanks for the input, everyone, but still, any price range?

It's hard to give an estimation just with one sentence of information - especially since I have no experience in POS software, and maybe others too. One would have to know how complex, detailed and featured the customer want it to be. I'm guessing the price ranges from $900 (for something really simple but custom made) and upwards, without onsite installation or advanced support. An open source solution can also be used for a consulting fee, if the customer is not too picky - it might cost less then $900.Tigerheart.Hackers wroteThanks for the input, everyone, but still, any price range?
