Leonedes wroteIm speaking in the name of all linux noobs as I am one myself, theres probably a billion different way to start out with linux with all the different distributions, i'm pretty sure they each have their advantages over windows/mac os x, just starting to think of a move towards using linux is a headache, even when I tried using Ubuntu, I didnt last longer than a week or two, I like the windows UI ! I've seen what Linux can do when windows cant, but to use it as a daily OS is just toooo frustrating for me. Anyway thats just me, and this may be a little off topic, but can you honestly convince me to change, when right now I mostly use Windows to code on Java (other than the usual stuff) ?
I also experienced the same as you. But, what really helped me to use Linux is: - Frustrating at first, then your system will be stable for more than 10 years (logically :P). Unlike Windows, (i just dont want to note them, they are alot!) - Using Ubuntu as a main OS, meanwhile, using other distro (experimental) so it will be just clean and neat environment for tinkering...
I also found many solution for merging from Windows, including Games, Simulation platform, Physical Computing etc... I'v spent alot doing this, i realized i should use Windows as guest (virtualization). I know the same thing having Windows as host, but its not like what you can think. Only as an alternative purpose. Of coarse you need a virtual support (CPU). However, i may be the most Linux user around here. No windows, not frustrating. (off-topic: Most user says, if you take a good care of it, it will handle the most. I say this is frustrating...)
P.S: Btw, Linux (ubuntu) now is completely different, you may want to try it as guest, or live)
