I have posted in the past on networking threads but this is my first in hardware.

basically i just moved into Achrafie apt and am not on the generator service.

i thus wanted to ask you guys 2 questions:

1) where is the best place to check out and buy UPS equipment in Beirut?

2) which model/s are the best value for money?

I am looking for something to carry my router as well as possibly a notebook or two.

thanks in advance for the hospitality of the levant...
Basically you can find many random and generic UPS at nearly any computer shop and there are lots of them scattered around in the streets.

First of all you're gonna have to figure out the type of UPS battery you need. I suppose the router doesn't consume much but the notebooks do.

Going with an 800 VA + could do the trick as long as your components need to stay a couple minutes until the private generator comes on.

I recommend you to check this page: PC and Parts as I always buy my stuff from there. I always bought the PCE brand and never went wrong with it.

Good luck and welcome to the region!
As wizard said, you can pretty much find them at any pc/hardware/electronics/games stores.

But word of advice the best ups here in lebanon is SANTAK.
Forget UPS. Go for an APS. At our building we don't have a generator. I purchased a custom built APS 2000VA unit with 4x 100 Amp batteries from Sonics. I can power on my Desktop (uses 600-700 watts), 40" LCD TV, several Neon lights, 2 notebooks, Internet and Network gadgets for 4 hours. Paid 1200$ for the whole thing. I am not sure if you heard of Sonics before; believe me they are pro when it comes to UPS and APS building. Batteries are made in the USA (manufactured by Trojan).

If you insist on getting a UPS unit, then go with MGE. Anything else is just crappy. (Talking from experience, not just an opinion)
whats an APS and where does one get one in Beirut?

do i have to spend 1200 usd to power a router and notebook?
well, you can always build your own, a car battery would do the trick hehe
You can buy a ups for 50 $
pce IP 650VA

nah, you can get a 1500va one for like 100 bucks and its overkill for your notebooks
Like most of you i have 3 hours of power-out but most of these 1500 UPS's seems to go for no more than 30-40 minutes.

If i am just using my .5 amp / 22 volt router (the standard Ogero THOMSON TG585 v7 model) off the power source, what type/rating UPS do i need to get say at least 2 hours of use?
If you were to get a spare battery and charger for your notebook, you could run the router on the UPS maybe 10 hours on its own. You run into trouble when trying to run something that uses power like your laptop. The 650 one listed above should more than suit your needs if you go this route.

Hey guys, I'm really sick of the random power outages happening in Lebanon (especially in Sour), I want to get a UPS for my 32" LCD TV, Router (12V, I've been told) and either my PS3 or Xbox 360, any idea what type of UPS I should get. We have a generator but there's too many power outages and I'm thinking of subscribing to PS+, so I want a UPS that can last for 30-1h max. Thanks in advance
BEST asco 750VA(500W) UPS, 220V/500W/2.5A output, powered by a 12V 100Ah Battery

32" LCD TV + DVB Receiver + Laptop + Router + Small Neon Light = 5 Hours "fully charged"

Problem is there's no goddamn good electricity to charge those big batteries !

Edit: 140$ for the UPS & 130$ for the battery
Thanks for the info :-) A bit expensive tho
