I remember it well. I was 7 years old when I was introduced to Mario on the NES. But what made me a hardcore gamer was the SNES when I played "Zelda:A link to the past". And believe me, I spent 6 months playing that game, there was no Internet for guides and cheats, and every breakthrough felt like a personal victory, I was raised old-school style my brothers.
And since then, I became an official hardcore gamer. I played on all systems but Xbots.
Shatilov
ah the good old days of classic games, I remember my 1st time(game :P).
Everyone was playing fifa 96 or 97, I choose to play Blood, I wasted my time on configuring the controls rather than playing the game. :P
I was around 9~10 years.
Joe
I started in 1994, when a distant aunt got me a gameboy. I was 7. Been a gamer until 2008. Then I got way too much into programming.

Sometimes, I blow in my xbox 360 just to get that old feeling back ;)
I always wondered if blowing really worked or if it's simply a psychological thing.

The cartridges are actually circuit boards with some non-volatile memory where the games are actually stored.
the metal contacts would sometimes get dirty. blowing on them would release some of that dirt. but i suppose mostly it was an error caused buy a glitch in the system and rarely an issue of dirty contacts :) since removing the cartridge to blow on it would reset the system. if it works, hey ! blowing on it solves the problem ! :P
monkey-d-luffy

When we got our first PC, my dad bought commandos and Delta force 2, I was like 6-7 when I played these games, but never got the point of it, just run and shoot until I'm dead x-( .
