What games do you think have changed the world of gaming and why?
Please don't post the best games you have ever played like Call of Duty(I am a CoD fan :D) or Battle-field, I want the games that have got the gaming world into a new era, I want games that have removed the roots of gaming and then planted newer and better roots, I want the games that have been a portal for a new world.
-In my opinion:
1-Contra: Since it was the first real shooter.
2-Half-Life 1: Well, i don't know if it is the first FPS, but i know it changed something.
3-Snake: I don't know why i added this, but i think it changed the phone gaming world :D
Note: Post as much games as you want, but please be realistic, don't post games like "The Attack Of the killer Tomatoes"

1-Red alert 3 which made gaming reach its down point with its cartoons graphics
while the elder series (red alert 2 & the expansion pack) were the best games in its era
2-World in conflict one of the best games i've ever played due to the fact that its real-time strategy game
and the cursor moves by using ur keyboard which seems to be creative^^ and ofc, the packed graphics which are epic, and the best gameplay.

Well, I agree with you on red-alert 2, i used to play it all the time. I'm not such a fan of strategy, but don't you think that the Company of Heroes series is better than world in conflict? Graphics are better, good game-play, its much realistic because it carries out real events as they happened in real history.
Company of Heroes(Tales of Valor) screen-shots:

Doom (pioneers of FPS gaming), Need for Speed (most car games try to imitate NFS, I have tons of knock off games trying to have the same gameplay as NFSU and NFSU2)

1- Mario World - the platformer that started it all.
2- Medal of Honor Allied Assault - the military shooter that started the trend of emotional war stories and class based multiplayer, contrary to many shooting games before it that was mainly players bunny-hopping and spamming around an arena, so after this one we had a new generation of fps.
3- Super Street Fighter 2 - not the first 2d fighting game, but it did reinvent the genre with it's multiple characters that don't just differ in color...and unique fighting mechanics for each fighter, and the first power bar that fills so you can make a super move.
4- Red Alert 95 - it basically created the roots for rts games.
5- NFS 3 - The first pursuit competitive racing game, not to mention that this one had that most decent gfx at the time.
6- The Adventure of Zelda 2 - I remember this was the first full scale rpg game that had you questing, lvling, looting, buying, selling, talking, I think even fishing, can't remember correctyl.
7- Twisted Metal - the first well-done vehicle combat game ever, no game was able to top the series.
8- Resident Evil 1 - this was the prime horror game.
9- Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia Sands of time, both the same genre though different games, they had unique features and mechanincs, Tomb Raider had innovative puzzles and POP SOT was the first dual sword wielding game with the best climbing mechanics, without these we might have never got Assassin's Creed or Uncharted...
Padre
Before zelda, I think a game called zeliard or smth
Monkey island, castle Wolfstein and the ultima series. As for flight games, I think it was wing commander.
Flakk
Doom and Quake - Pioneered FPS games, Online Multiplayer, Graphical engines powered many known games today (CoD games)
Unreal Tournament games - Unreal Engine 3 One of the most used graphical Engines in games today.
Diablo and Diablo 2 - the best Hack n slash action RPGs
Warcraft & Starcraft - Most popular strategy games in the world, competitive multiplayer, 50million Koreans agree :P
Half-Life series - Revolution in Story telling
Baldurs Gate II - We wouldn't have Dragon Age or Mass effect if it weren't for this epic game
Call of Duty series - even my grandma played CoD (not really)
World of Warcraft
The Elder Scrolls - Freeform and open ended gameplay in First person, most active modding community (I cant wait for Skyrim)
