anyone know how much ethernet cables cost per meter? the one thats just the cable without rj-45's installed
you can get the whole UTP box for 33$
you can get it below 500 LL here in tripoli ~300LL/meter
i t hink ill stick with the 500 LL one :P tripoly is too far
avo, how many meters of ethernet is that utp box?
the box is 305M as default
and yes even 500 L.L is expansive if you want to buy more than 100 M
305m for 33$ ? seems cheap to me, 162 LL for a meter?
Depends on the quality and origin of the cable
What do you want ? Cat5e ? Cat6 ? Yo want it Utp or stp . Or even sstp ?

no idea what those mean!
whats the difference between those? i just have color codes in my pc and was going to use that
If you want 1gbps, you have to go for cat5e or cat6.
If 100mbps is enough, and distance is not an issue, cat5 is enough.
If you're expecting high interference, magnetic fields, running your cables around high voltage power cables, ... you need stp cables (s for shielded, but these are thicker and less flexible).
cat5e/cat6 alone does not suffice for a 1gb connection. you need to handle the cable properly! and do not bend and twist it!
whoaa, i thought there's just 1 kind of cable!
well 100mbps seems enough for LAN games, but its gonna be a long distance
How long is a long distance?
Less than 100m for 1 segment --> cat5
More than 100m for 1 segment --> cat5e/cat6 (even though that's not the best practice, but it does work)
well i checked again the distance, its like 400 meters,
i think im going to wait for internet upgrade this month, if i still can't game online without lags, im making that cable!
