NajaLB wroteI have an internet connection that I'm about to change soon. I called my provider asking him where do you get internet from , he says Ogero. I have 100-300 latency on Lebanese servers , 200-400 international.
My max download speed is 31kb/sec and may come down to 10 which is far away from being accepted !
My connection is wireless by the way and it's unlimited , i used to pay 35$ now he's taking 25$ because we're good customers. Last summer i had 8-20 latency on Lebanese servers and 60-100 international.
My download speed was the same actually but got worse. Same router same laptop , is it from my ISP or what ? I called earlier on , he said we did make changes [better] to the connection but it was getting worse.
New connection: They used to take from VISP but they changed. Latency 8-20 on lebanese servers and 60-80 international
Download speed: 60-100kb/sec
Try another PC/laptop to elimnate any variables here
That being said an Ogero connection will cost you 24,000LL @ 1MBit speed with a 4GB limit
I would consider a DSL connection by now, much more reliable; i mean if you have a phone line why not ?
You mentioned it's unlimited; perhaps your doing some heavy downloads and a FUP is in place ? Ask your reseller about that.
NajaLB
Well, i just have my laptop and my sister's ..
If i switch laptops it would be worse , because my sister has a mini laptop .. HP .. Mine has way better specs.
And no we don't have a line .. we won't be getting one either i guess , at least for now because we don't use it. That eliminates both pc/laptops cases and the DSL.
And about the DSL thing , i really like having a 1MBit speed but i kinda get on my nerves when it's limited ..
I AFK a lot on servers , forums , open lots of links , same as my sister with skype and all that stuff !
Heavy downloads ? No .. not doing any lately , just few songs i suppose and some apps for HTC so .. same goes for my sister.
By FUP you mean Follow Up ?

NajaLB wroteBy FUP you mean Follow Up ?
FUP= Fair Usage Policy. He was referring to the fact that your speed might be throttled if an FUP was in place and you were downloading too much.
NajaLB
Oh, i will check in with my reseller.
Other than that , it's a bad connection to cut to the chase right ?
NuclearVision
FUP=Fair uasge policy, for unlimited internet sevices=Download a lot, get your neck broken because of speed downgrade.
Stay on that unlimited, ogero is not that good, you'll end up paying 200$ at the end of the month, if you're used to an unlimited connection.

Yeah, that's the problem i hate being limited myself.
And i'll talk to him about the issue, and does FUP have anything to do with the latency ?
I mean it was 8-10 last summer it became 100-200 or it's for both the download speed and the latency ?
NuclearVision
@NAJALB Last summer, I think FUP is resetted every month, it won't last for a year.
You know, that's the main problem with internet via resellers, no user control panel, no stats, no good support.
By The way what's your background isp, i.e your real isp? You can find that in speedtest.net.

When the FUP changes, it changes in the same way, i mean .. for the good or the bad ? Because it keeps on renewing, i can't possibly see any problem with it.
Background ISP ? IncoNet-Data Management ?

Oh, so my reseller takes connection for IDM and distributes them.
Hmm .. I'll be talking to him and if it didn't work out, i'll change it.

Well I already asked this on Sodetel's topic but I would like to ask here to know about all ISPs and to ask furthermore.
So today is my first day back to Lebanon after a heavenly vacation abroad, so to celebrate my arrival, no electricity nor generators, maximum blackout (Well but it came back after 30 minutes, at 12:30AM, very well). Second, shiFty Internet, I wished I'd come back to Lebanon with an improved Ping from Sodetel, but got worse Ping and worse Bandwidth ranking at up to 600ms and 40KB/S download speed ! و ياريت فيني ما ارجع
Well I knew while I was there that there's a problem with a main cable cut near Egypt, and the Internet was down for 48 hours, then it came back, but then I heard that it was normal again, wasn't it ?
I knew that the 23GBPS cable was replaced with a 10GBPS from Cyprus, plus a few GBPS we had already, but I thought that it was back to normal for some people, or for most of them, false ?
So I'd like to know about your connections to see if it's just mine, just Sodetel or just Lebanon. And do you know how much time will it take to fix that cable underseas ? Or is the answer still blowing in the wind ?
Seriously I feel like I'm back to my 256kbps connection and that disgusting !
Well but sadly I can't do anything about it, awaiting your answers, thanks.

According to trusted sources, the ship that will fix the cable arrived on location yesterday night.
Repairs should start this evening or tomorrow morning at the latest and will take about 4 days. IMEWE should be back to normal status around Sunday evening.

Thanks ! I hope these news are correct, at least something good after I came back to Lebanon ! :D (After seeing my parents of course :P )

@Mokey D. Luffy If the FUP resetting date tend to be further, will the download limit stay the same.
I mean 15GB for 3 months is a shame. If 15 GB is the max bandwidth out of FUP. My reseller told me nothing about FUP though.
NajaLB
@NuclearVision: Yeah my provider didn't tell me about FUP either. I thought that it's unlimited what to worry about so i forgot about it.
And as i know Fair Usage Policy is when a customer or member taking from the same ISP as the other groups of people downloads heavily or surf's the web constantly gets his download speed limited at peak times because it slows down the connection of the others. In that case Fair Usage Policy is applied to equal everybody's download speed. That frustrates me a lot because i'm paying 35$ for 200-500 latency on all servers and my download speed at night is 31-61 kb/sec and at daytime 10-20 kb/sec.
And that's not fair at all ! Eventually unlimited connection isn't so unlimited after all.
Talking with our resellers won't do any good i assume, he'll just say " you download a lot and surf the web a lot which makes other people's connection go really slow " - warning , and limits our connection !
I surf the web daily .. facebook couple of times for 10 minutes only. MSN too. Google searches ..
Downloading music from time to time [3-10MB/music isn't a big of a deal]
Pretty much the same for my sister ..

Well i called my reseller, asking about the low speed 20KB/s (all day), he said this is an issue, it will be hopefully fixed on the 20th of this month indeed.
Waiting for that day...

Well waiting two days won't harm.
If things didn't go well.
He's availble I will call him, maybe they are resettinf FUP on the 20th. And he knows nothing about it, they just told him it will be fixed on the 20th of this month.
