I'am currently subscribed with IDM and the internet is always slow
Any better alternatives for IDM?
Dude I don't recommend changing ISP, if you're having problems with idm then surely you'll have problems with any other ISP except ogero. I'm with idm too and was going to change because my speed barely reaches 1M between 3 pm and 1 am( I have the 4M). So when I went to apply for terranet, the dealer told me it's a problem concerning my central rather than ISP. He said all ISPs have customers connected to either new or old connections from ogero then to the ISP, and all new connections where the one screwed, and saidly I'm one of them. He showed me from my account how I can check my connection. Bottom line, he said changing my ISP won't fix anything until they fix my central.
So I advice you to check what's your problem before applying to another ISP, since other IDM users are having full speed.

Bump, I also wanted to change from Terranet - but they told me to wait until the end of the month for the Minister to sign something related to an International Capacity, which in his opinion would expand the bandwidth for COs and fix my below problem in return.
My Terranet dsl connection thru Ogero CO Khaldeh has been very weak to the point that I couldn't receive notifications on my phone, this been like this since the Minister upgraded all connections to 2 Mbps.
Anyhow I'll give it to the end of this month as my last shot until converting to Ogero DSL.

Any one know why our upload speeds are that low?
I mean why all ISPs offer only ADSL? Why we can't see offers on SDSL?
ADSL (Asymmetric) where the speed is usually higher on download side than upload. This was OK and understood when ISPs were too limited on backbone bandwidth and they used Satellite links to air their download needs, but couldn't do the same with upload because of the law.
But now as most of the bandwidth is now from ogero, and when ISPs buy E1 line they get a symmetric download/upload speeds.
So they are getting Upload just as much as they are getting download.
So why we can't get more upload speeds?
In theory, providing more upload speeds, Lebanon is more productive than consuming. right?

well I've heard if I need to change ISPs I need to wait like 2 months, is that true?

Depends on the ISP and the laziness of their staff. The entire process doesn't actually take more than an hour. They're just too lazy to do their job, and like to stall you as much as possible

Double post (Thanks to Sodetel's "Normal" 3000ms ping, which I'm getting without even being FUP-d)

I Think Ogero will be fast for you.
I remember when i subscribed to Ogero, I did not wait as much as when i subscribed to Private ISPs like Sodetel and Wise.
Cause Ogero is the main distributor for all private ISPs, and when you apply a subscription to any private ISP, their staff will go to ogero and make an account for you.
For now,you will have to contact Wise and tell them i want to stop my account, terminate it completely.
And as i remember, you need to ask them to give you a copy of the termination papers of your account, because without that, you will not be able to apply to another ISP (at least not on the same telephone number that is).
Call Wise, and ask for the details about how to terminate your account, cause i do not remember exactly the process.
(Cause eventually i switched to Ogero, and all the internet worries are all flushed out from my head)
Be sure to ask them about the termination papers.
After they terminate your account completely with Ogero,You can then go ahead to any Ogero centre depending on your Region.
There is one in Jdeideh, and one in Hamra etc...
And you will apply for a subscription, and after maximum a month, they will contact you for an appointment to visit your house.
Best of luck.

Well, I can't handle a month without internet :s

Hi guys, I'm new here. Anw, I'm Lebanese I live in north Lebanon. I used to have a DSL Ogero internet, great ping, nice download speed and perfect stability for a hardcore league of legends player. Since summer we changed our house and had to move to a new street where there isn't a landline case set up by ogero, basically it was a goodbye for DSL... Anw we went to "Central" and informed Ogero that we need a case installation there.. And until now nothing changed (Problem 1). Now, since like 6 months I'm taking internet from private ISPs wifi broadband that doesn't require a landphone line...... Worst internet you will ever meet, the internet you will only see in your nightmares... Seriously my ping when there is no internet (500ms) is better than when there is internet (800~1000ms) {Funny yeh??!}. Sometimes it gets down to 80ms, but when? At 6 AM..
So basically I'm here for some help, 1- How much does it take for Ogero to start and finish their installation?
2- Do you have any idea about a good Wifi broadband ISP with a good stable ping? I'm already fed up with my ISP he is takin $50 for nothing... I'm not paying him this month if he doesn't fix this mess and start giving me what he promised...
Cheers and thanks for your help!

You need "the box." We ordered this phone box about two years ago, and we haven't yet received it. Apparently there are issues between different ministries (political, corruption, etc.) so the government isn't distributing these phone boxes to new buildings unless you have some very good wasta or unless the ministry sorts the issues out. The only reason I have DSL is because I illegally connected my phone line to my relative's building's phone box. I don't care if that's legal or not. If the government is this incompetent, I'll take matters into my own hands.
I used to have your wireless broadband type (where "the internet guy" installs a receiver on your roof and hooks that up to a router), and it was horrible. Ping was horrible, and 80 percent of the time it was too slow (2-10KB/s, while we were paying for 4Mb/s). Only time it was decent was during the night or early in the morning, as you said.
I think your only option is 3G. All wireless broadband is horrible in this country. And the 3G is much more expensive.

Ahmad Toutounji wrotedoes changing phone line wires from house to building electricity give better ping too?
Do you mean taking a direct line from the telephone box? basically make it as short as possible and i'm not too knowledgeable about the wiring types but check this subject on the forum
SFTP CAT5e for DSL installation

A bewildering 40 minutes with Abdel Moneim Youssef
Abdel Moneim Youssef is not your average public servant. If there is one compelling impression from meeting him in person, it is that there is much more to him than meets the eye. In this sense, his office at the Ministry of Telecommunications is revealingly unrevealing: large but functional, not overtly more guarded than the premises of other Grade 1 national officials, and adorned with memorabilia — fittingly in his case, blown-up images of historic Lebanese phone cards decorate the spacious waiting area.

Since fiber to home is out of the question during this decade, is VDSL feasible and a more realistic approach towards telecommunications reform? Are there any plans to implement it?

I called up Ogero recently and they told me that i have a bill that hasn't been paid since 2006 so they are taking time to process my payment and installment, Ogero estimated a 3 month period before i can get my hands on any ADSL.
Meanwhile I cant stay without internet, I have a couple of these private offices around my house that give out internet, at the same time there are the other wireless solutions such as the iFly, mobi broadband, wigo etc...
What is my best bet for the lowest ping possible for these 3 months?
I want to start gaming so bad!
