Beej wroteYou guys have to know that AMD always has/had the price/performance king. Yes they are weaker than intel, especially in multi gpu scenarios. But with buldozer this is all supposedly will be eliminated.
Now as for AMD, its not widespread in the lebanese market duo to the heavy marketing for intel products. The moment we say AMD most of the ppl will say NO. Same goes for AMD cards, NO. Buldozer targets the current SB cpus, and is rumored to be faster in some ways. So it will have more performance. the highest FX proc with 8 cores and unlocked (black edition) will be priced equally to SB i7 2600K. But its the AMD board itself is cheap. Thats the advantage.
Now sandybridge E, is an enthusiast chip, it has the same tech as SB (1155), but more cache and a few tweaks here and there, also mainly more cores. To me and gurus here, the imp difference is the "kinda" unlocked base clock OC-ing. But socket 2011 is expensive. Remember 1366 when it first hit? The cheapest board would set u back 250$, in the US let alone lebanon. These boards have more features than the 1366, and are HUGE. The socket itself is 2011 pins.
So comparing buldozer to SB-E is righteous interms of technology and specs. But price wise.... No FREGGIN WAY.
With that kinda money, you might slip away with a basic AM3+ board, and a quad core buldozer (but its not gna be black edition) so no OC till it dies.
Actually, AMD also plans to release a 10-core Bulldozer chip if I'm not mistaken...Sandy Bridge-E is also going hexa-core, as that is what Intel missed in the 6 series LGA 1155 platform...Bulldozer will compete with the Sandy Bridge-E on that level, and with OC capabilities, there may be some surprises...Bulldozer will then have a new architecture released later on...I guess Intel has competition again :D
EDIT: Intel is choking its customers with their socket changes and forcing power users to expensive solutions which are overkill in some features but necessary in other (X79 wink wink)...hope this will be a shot in the face for Intel. Competition is good for the customer I guess.
EDIT 2: Beej, don't forget about power efficiency. AMD always has the crown here. Always. Intels, especially the ones released for high-end chipsets (X58, X79, etc...) suck down power like there's no tomorrow. Heat is also less of an issue, of course.
