Re: Internet Speed and Latency in Lebanon

I am with IDM, Mazraa CO, 2 MB connection

Since after the storm last week, latency to all servers has gone up 80-90ms to be on the 180 average for European servers instead of 90-100ms

has this happened to other IDM users?

Can't be happier than that...

Just got custom AP wireless internet here, latency 89 ms (games  ~130) Speed: 512kbps to 10mbps!! And hey! Public IP is free!! Hosting

MC server: tmnct.servegame.com ;)

Screw ADSL, I guess the internet im using is connected at the outside of Lebanon, or 2 way Satellite internet (illegal one)

I don't think Satellite would get you those latencies, though. And congrats!

Re: Internet Speed and Latency in Lebanon

The main problems with internet offers in Lebanon, are, really:
- Latency
- Quota
- and to some extent, price

Just of curiosity. I have seen multiple internet cafe's where players play online, quite frankly almost lag free.
I'm talking about 10 computers running at the same time playing dota 2 or WoW without lag.
I just want to know if anyone have an idea of what internet do they use.

i'm wondering the same thing for awhile myself, i remember once a net cafe with way over 20pc's running with all of them being used for online gaming from CoD, WoW, LoL, dota, etc...Weirdest part is we had to patch the league of legends and it was missing a couple of 100's mb to be patched fully, owned said it's fine to patch it and we ran 2 pcs patching same time, they were patched before the connection reached it's fully potential, speed was increasing every second, and each pc reached over 400kb/s, noone had any lag in cafe which still shocks me.

Dedicated Connection, which usually costs more than 200$ for 1 Meg.

i know wise offer this, for around $300 / month, dedicated and totally unlimited quota, usually it's for companies and business, not sure if they will give you one if you're not a company.

Cyberia offers the same as well, and I'm guessing all other ISPs too.

You just have to call them and tell them you're a company and need unlimited internet.

Re: Internet Speed and Latency in Lebanon

Hi everyone,
My cousin in Faraya is subscribed to Ogero's old 128K account. It hasn't been upgraded YET (!) to 1mbps.

Here are his line settings:
DSL type: G.992.3 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down): 93/128 kbps
Output power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11,0/0,0
Line attenuation (Up/Down) [dBm]: 37,5/59,0
SN margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 33,5/20,0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB/GSPN
FEC errors (Up/Down): 0/361
The rest is unremarkable

Isn't it possible to reach speeds higher than... let's say 512K on his line?
Thank you

Re: Internet Speed and Latency in Lebanon

been visiting friends who have cable provider internet and their speeds are incredible, for 30 Dollars they are getting almost constant 1500KB speeds which is just ridiculous! Are the upgrades starting to roll out or all these occurrences are just random?

It used to happen to me when I used cable connection 4 months ago (ICW),but most of the downloads were broken and corrupted.

Re: Internet Speed and Latency in Lebanon

@fallstreak: Cached data? Do they cache everything on the web? I have had a VPS for a while and I used to mirror torrents downloaded there. Used to get same speeds.. I'm sure no one has downloaded those files from my server before.
But what I think is happening is the following. When I start my download, it starts from isp's server. I pause my download and resume it again the speed goes higher, now I am downloading it from ISP server's which already downloaded it this file at high speeds.
That's some kind of on demand-live cache. And I have no problem with it as long as I am getting my files, most of them, at crazy speeds.
Regards.

My downloads are rarely broken, I haven't seen a corrupted case yet.

Re: Internet Speed and Latency in Lebanon

On december 22 i upgraded my ogero connection from 2mbps to 4mbps. I was told the new connection will take affect on the first of the following month. Logging into my ogero account i can see that my connection is now 4mbps but the speeds im am getting reflect a 2mbps connection? Should i give them a call or it will upgrade eventually?

I think it takes about +/-1 week from the start of the month.
